The National Veteran Small Business Coalition Appoints New Executive Director

Washington D.C. – The Board of Directors of the National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC) is pleased toannounce the appointment of Mr. Scott Jensen as the organization’s new Executive Director. He succeeds Founding Executive Director Scott Denniston who has been in the position since June 2010. Jensen will start his new position on August 1.

“It has been a true honor to have been part of the NVSBC for the past 10 years. When seven of us had lunch 10 years ago to discuss the need for an organization of Veteran small business owners to represent ourselves in the federal marketplace we had no idea what we were starting! Through the hard work of our dedicated board members and staff we are now a well-respected organization,” stated Denniston. “I am excited to watch Scott Jensen build on our successes and welcome him to the NVSBC. I want to especially thank Heather Lee and Earl Morgan, our dedicated staff members for their unwavering support. I also want to thank all of our sponsors, members and volunteers who make NVSBC possible. I hope to stay involved in some, as yet to be determined, capacity. Jensen’s background uniquely positions him to assume this post, as the NVSBC’s second Executive Director. With three decades of management, leadership and cultural experience,  Jensen provided holistic expertise, understanding, and keen insight into optimizing and growing organizations. He has a passion for serving the Veteran and nonprofit communities. Jensen frequently addresses military, civilian, and higher education organizations on an array of topics that include leadership, strong culture, trauma survivor care and support, and workplace harassment and violence prevention. An author and speaker, he has been featured as an expert in print, radio, and television media including Forbes, USA Today, The Washington Post, BBC, NPR, and Headline News.

“I am very pleased to have this opportunity to contribute to the Veteran owned business community as part of such a strong and well-respected organization as the NVSBC,” stated Jensen.  “I applaud Scott Denniston’s hard work in building and growing the NVSBC and am excited to work with our board of directors, staff, and membership to sustain that growth into the future.  We remain laser-focused on advocating for and supporting Veteran owned businesses.”

A 27-year Marine Corp Veteran, Jensen started his military career as naval aviator. He served in various assignments in operational units, participating in peace keeping operations in Somalia, noncombatant evacuation operations in Rwanda, Operation Southern Watch in Kuwait, and multiple combat operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Jensen also held a number of staff positions in his military career. His last assignment was serving as the Chief of the Marine Corps’ Behavioral Programs at Headquarters Marine Corps. Colonel Jensen retired in May 2016.

Not only is Jensen a proud Veteran himself, he is equally proud to be the son of a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and the father of an active duty Navy officer.

Jensen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Science degree in military studies from Marine Corps University, and a Master of Arts degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
