John iD. Thomas is the Managing Director of Shawnee Advisors, a boutique strategic consulting firm focused on corporate strategy and growth. Prior to this position, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer of Leidos, where he had responsibility for corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, government and legislative affairs, and communications. His corporate experience includes general management positions with SAIC, where he acted as President of the $4B National Security Sector following serving as the Integrated Systems Group General Manager. He also served on the Advisory Board of SOSi.
Before joining SAIC, he served as an active-duty Army Officer retiring as a Major General. He commanded the two largest intelligence organizations in the Army, the Army Intelligence Center at Ft. Huachuca and the Intelligence and Security Command at Ft. Belvoir. He also served as the Associate Deputy Director of the National Security Agency and Deputy Chief of the Central Security Service.
He also served as Board Chairman of Cornerstones, a nonprofit organization in Northern Virginia that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those needing food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services. Additionally, he served as Chairman of the Cornerstones Housing Corporation, which owns and manages more than one hundred affordable housing units in Northern Virginia.
Mr. Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree from Wilkes University and a master’s from the University of Southern California. Additionally, he graduated from the National War College, the Advanced Management Program of the University of Chicago, The Center for Creative Leadership and Harvard University’s Program for Senior Executives in National and International Security.
